At a time when many sports are struggling to build or find access to new facilities, outside the box thinking can help provide the solution.
A great example of this is the Carpark Climb, held as part of the festival of cycling at last months Tour Down Under, the first leg on the Professional World Tour.
The Carpark Climb is held in an inner city multi-story carpark and sees two riders at a time race from the ground floor to the top of the 6 storey carpark - first across the line wins and moves to the next round.
While the race is a bit of fun with DJ’s, a bar and entertainment creating a great atmosphere, it gives the amateurs and every day punter who have come to watch the professionals in the Tour proper the chance to get involved.
As our cities get more busy and access to traditional facilities becomes more challenging, new formats that capitalise on existing infrastructure is the sort of innovation that will help sports continue to grow and cater to the next generation.
