Australian Jockey Association Governance Review

About the Project

The Australian Jockeys Association (AJA) required support to evolve their governance to address challenges they were facing as a nationally federated association.

Through an extensive engagement and consultation process, the project analysed and provided recommendations on the following key areas.
• Describe the strategic purpose of AJA as determined by the board and recommend any changes required to the associations Objects as detailed within the Constitution.
• Describe and analyse how the AJA Constitution compares with best practice and provide recommended improvements.
• Describe and analyse how AJA governance policies, by-laws and practices compare with contemporary governance practices including comparable not-for-profit organisations.
• Recommended roles and responsibilities of national and state and territory associations including high level resourcing requirements.
• Describe and analyse how the AJA management structure can best align with and support a future governance model including committee structures.

Key outcomes from the project included an improved governance model including increased director independence and diversity of skills, clearer delineation of the roles and responsibilities between the AJA and its member association, and a renewed strategic purpose and revised strategic plan providing greater clarity and direction to the organisation.
